Done for Threadless’s Cross Cultural challenge. The description I included with the entry was:
This tapestry weaves together the symbolism of two cultures from across a vast ocean – the Vikings from the north of Europe and the different Native American tribes that call North America home.
Native American animal deities, namely the trickster coyote and the quick, graceful deer play beneath the Norse world tree Yggdrasil along with Odin’s raven servants Hugin and Munin. All of them are basking in the glow of a stylized Zia Pueblo sun.
This scene is bordered by a pattern of Viking knot work as well as a Native American spiral pattern. The colour scheme uses the rich earth tones of Native American art as well as the (gold) metal of Viking artifacts.
